Tropical Airmass

Tropical Airmass

First off thanks to Slim for filling in for me, very much appreciated.  Also hats off to the Plainwell EMS, Borgess Pipp and Borgess Hospital in Kalamazoo.  Great crews there of doctors and nurses – and of course the Water Street Coffee Shoppe in the atrium for their strong brews to keep me going.

My wife fractured three ribs Tuesday morning, as some of you may know this is a very painful thing to go through.  A sad circumstance of getting older our bodies can’t take a beating like they used to.  She is at home now and resting, which she will need a lot of over the next couple weeks.

I will get the forecasts up shortly on the new site (around 9am).  You can click on the link at the bottom of the post.

Weather wise the heat and humidity will be on the rise through next week with perhaps record highs through most of the state due to a tropical airmass moving into place. Our normal highs are around 70°.   Not much rain is in the forecast over the next two weeks with the exception of a few pop up storms from instability – consider yourself lucky if you get one.

Here are the CPC graphics through October 4th.

Michael, we all hope your wife has the most speedy recovery possible. The next several days look to be very warm (hot by September standards) As I said yesterday this looks like it Grand Rapids (and many areas of Michigan and the Great Lakes region) will have the warmest stretch… Read more »

This is a crazy heat wave for this time of the year! I keep looking at the calendar thinking no way is it almost October, it’s just way to hot. We went to Artprize last night, and it was terrible walking around in this heat. 80 degrees yet after the… Read more »

You are spot on, Barry. It’s been an incredibly warm 2-3 year period now. Last I looked, more than 80% or 85% of the months have been above average. I see nothing yet why this winter will be any different.

I just got back from a walk and a few things that I noticed. 1. It is very warm and humid out. Here at my house I have a temperature of 89° with a DP of 74° at the airport the last readings there were 91/70. 2. Another thing I… Read more »
Sandy (Hudsonville)
We went for a walk earlier when it was 82 out. I didn’t think it was too bad at first but the dog did so we cut our walk short. We also have noticed the early change in the trees. The tree in our front yard has some red leaves… Read more »

I’m happy to hear Mrs. V. will be okay.

Holy cow, it is hot out!

Mark (East Lansing)

This is me, but it shows up as Anonymous when I use my computer.

93° now. One shy of the record for Lansing. Looks like GR will at least tie their record.

Some daytime heating/pop up storms appearing. We haven’t seen very many of those this summer.

Sandy (Hudsonville)

I was wondering who that was.

Mookie

GR just hit 91 degrees! Phewww

SlimJim

Last reading at GRR is now 93° with a DP of 69° That 93°breaks the old record of 92° set in 1908! Here at my house I have a reading of an even hotter 95° with a dp of 70° Just wondering just where do you live Mookie?

Barry in Zeeland

That is just an insane temperature for this time of year! Here at work we have hit a new high for the year at 119 degrees indoors. And it feels downright horrrible!

Mark (East Lansing)

Strong winds, heavy rain, pea-sized hail, and lots of CTG lightning. Temp dropped about 20 degrees. Strongest storm of the season on one of the hottest days of the season. Crazy.

Barry in Zeeland

Your lucky! I don’t think we’ve had any rain in 2 weeks, and the best thunderstorms we’ve had all year was back in January and February.

Mark (East Lansing)

That was pretty awesome. From 5:30 till 7:30, we had non-stop lightning.

Jack Edwards

Jealous….

Mark (East Lansing)

Record highs yesterday all over the place
95° broke a 122 year old record here.
